Speakers at the May 5th Whatcom BNI were Kimberly Larrabee and Cat Zavis.

Kimberly Larrabee is a kitchen cabinet and interior design specialist at Walkers Carpet One Floor and Home. Kimberly has had years of experience in this field, and is able to cater her design ideas for cabinets, counters, fixtures, flooring, and layout to each client’s style and budget. Once a general idea is developed collaboratively with clients, Kimberly is then able to produce accurate 3-D representations with computer imaging. Kimberly has defined herself as a design professional with clarity, respect and sparkle. Cat Zavis is an attorney and mediator who helps people communicate, collaborate, and resolve conflicts with skill and respect. For her presentation, Cat used improvisational role plays to demonstrate how strong emotions from divorce involving infidelity, personal pain, child custody, and the financial future of the family can be heard by both parties using non-violent communication techniques. The emotional charge in the room was clear, and the results of the shift in communication were profoundly effective.

Speakers at the April 28th Whatcom BNI meeting were Rebecca Parker, Stephanie Dalton-Rubido, and Cat Zavis.

Rebecca Parker from Root of Healing is a board-certified naturopathic doctor who specializes in classical homeopathy and allergy elimination. Rebecca lead us in a fascinating exploration of a new approach to allergy elimination. NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) is a systematic way of training the body to recognize which substances are not toxic. Once the body understands that something is not toxic, it will no longer create an allergic reaction to it. NAET is a safe, natural, and remarkably effective method of removing allergies and other reactions against healthy substances.

Stephanie Dalton-Rubido of Chappaz Massage showed how headaches can be caused by tension from elsewhere in the body, and demonstrated how that tension can be released by massage.

Cat Zavis is an attorney and mediator who helps people communicate and resolve conflicts with skill and respect. Cat gave helpful tips about how to give and receive feedback. Cat reminded us that feedback is a valuable tool and an opportunity to make a clear observation about what worked and what didn’t – without judgment, blame, or criticism.

Phil Rose is a photographer and graphic designer. His professional photography includes a wide range of kid portraits, weddings, commercial applications, and more. In his presentation, Phil shared an unusually beautiful style of journalistic photography for weddings and events. With this journalistic style, he is able to capture illusive moments and stories within events and between people without being front and center at the proceedings. Phil uses similarly unusual approaches to his portrait photography, especially with kids. By getting them to forget that the camera is there, he captures more than ‘cute’, and photographs a part of who they are.
